Ben Constable, a member of the Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club, recently took delivery of his new Plastex Olympic Fighter 85 Extreme & didn’t wait long to get it on the water to put it through it’s paces!

Ben’s initial feedback was that he was very impressed with the finish and overall construction quality of the boat and that certainly also translated into superior performance on the water.

We look forward to sharing more customer feedback on the Plastex Olympic Fighter with you in the coming months.

Please watch out though soon for a similar Australian athlete review of the Plastex Midas 2, the preferred high performance K1 of choice for current Men’s K1 200m & 500m World Champions Piotr Siemionowski and Marek Twardowski.

Poland: September 2011

The exciting thing about travelling to Poland in the Olympic Hopefuls was that it was my first time going overseas to a different country, first time in a National team and also my first time competing internationally.

It was a great experience. Watching other international competitors paddling, experiencing the culture of Poland (especially all the good foods), the crazy driving in narrow European streets and socialising with athletes from other countries was amazing. Being a full time athlete was great- just eating, sleeping and training!

A big thank you to PCK and Plastex for their generosity while we were overseas. They provided all the Victorian paddlers with K1s to use while we were over there, organising it so that the boats were there ready for us when we arrived. It was great to have their support and we really appreciated having the boats to use.

I was given an Olympic Fighter 65, which was perfect for my size. I really liked the way the boat performed. The design of the hull meant that it tracked in a straight line well and was easy to get smooth boat run. I found that it was fast, especially once it was up and running. A highlight for my paddling results was a 3rd in the 200m time trials in my age group. This was really pleasing because I had been 5th at home before the trip. It was also exciting to make the semi final, during the international regatta in the age group above mine. I improved my paddling and learnt a lot on this trip.

Cheers, Maddie.

In a recent interview with Sea Eagle President Cecil Hope, Cecil stated that he firmly believes that the Sea Eagle 385 Fast Track, only released worldwide mid last year, is the best inflatable kayak for Australian conditions.

With numerous and varying conditions that Australian recreational paddlers would tend to want to enjoy, from flat water lakes, rivers & estuaries to white water rapids and surf, the 385FT’s design and construction is able to uniquely handle all these conditions with ease. This unique design and construction centres mainly around the keel and skeg providing superior stability and paddling direction hold. Some recent customers in Victoria are currently putting one through ‘it’s paces’ on the Gippsland Lakes, we expect their assessment report in the coming weeks! We’ll keep you posted.

For further details otherwise please refer to our on-line store where both available models are showcased (385FT & 465FT) or contact us via sales@pck.com.au &/or on 0425 038 855.

Kayaking in mizzly, drizzly weather is fine too. Just add a rainproof jacket. We will progressively challenge ourselves, from dams/lakes, to rivers and ultimately to the sea. We found we had to put one puff on air into the seat bottoms and six into the seat backs. This lowers one’s centre of gravity, making the vessel more buoyant, hence safter. We quickly found out too that it really needs only one paddler, the person at the rear, when navigating a dam or lake at least. It’s too short a kayak to comfortably accommodate two paddlers in our opinion. We got tangled up, with my (front) oar creating a drag, when side on into the wind and causing us to capsize. The Deluxe seats are the only way to go!! Sooooo comfortable. We loved being able to pop one seat out, move the remaining one up a bit, then set off alone for a solo paddle. It’s a great size for a solo expedition, with room then for a fishing rod, camping gear, etc..We are six foot, and five and half foot respectively and the 330 SE is fine for us, but would be better still for shorter, slighter built persons. We think the craft is well made and designed and of sturdy quality, giving a great kayaking experience, but where it really triumphs is that we can pack it into our little Toyota Echo’s boot (sedan) and take off on a whim, for a very inexpensive little adventure. A middle-aged woman could handle this alone, packing, carrying and rolling up again, no worries. By the way, the oars are “oarsome”, being beautifully designed and lightweight. The world is a different place from out on the water, where there is always a breeze and a new view every few seconds. It’s nice to think that little adventures are entirely possible, even in one’s fifties and no longer athletic (speaking for myself only). Being nature buffs, we are thrilled to be able to enjoy aquatic life in all its diversity and still be able to bring home a fish. K-Mart sells a little, retractable fishing rod, with all the accoutrements, for just $33 and we aim to become proficient in its use
Do publish the above if you wish, with our compliments and appreciation for a great product.
Kind regards, Nicola and Anton Wisse

Why the new FastTrack Kayak Paddles So Well

Drop Stitch Outside Keel at bow rides over waves, providing buoyancy and constrains the natural yaw of an inflatable kayak

Removable Rear Skeg keeps kayak headed on its intended course. Can be removed for whitewater use.

Super rigid drop stitch floor increases the overall rigidity of the kayak and creates side chines under the pontoons that enhance overall paddling performance.

Our Sleeker, Faster, Lighter, More Rigid Inflatable Kayaks

Our NEW Sea Eagle FastTrack inflatable kayaks were born to explore large lakes with secluded islands, long meandering rivers, intimate salt marshes with winding water passages, inland bays, hidden ocean coves. The secret of this new design is the outside drop stitch keel in the bow and the large skeg in the stern. These features combine to limit the “yaw” (the sideways movement when using a double end paddle) of this kayak and create unparalleled “bite” on the water.

When the paddler takes a paddle stroke on the left or right side, the drop stitch keel in bow acts as a block against the natural yaw of the kayak while the skeg keeps the kayak tracking forward. This “bite” propels the kayaker forward more efficiently because the natural yaw of the kayak is contained – resulting in greater speed and a straighter course – in other words, the fastest way is the straightest line.

A very important feature is the high pressure drop stitch floor. It provides rock solid rigidity to the whole structure of the kayak making it very responsive to paddle strokes. The drop stitch floor even makes this kayak rigid enough to be used as a Standup Paddle Board. The Sea Eagle 385ft and 465ft kayaks can be paddled for many miles and many hours with little effort. It will go straight in whatever direction you want and it will hold a course no matter at what angle you are paddling in relation to the wind. This new design is truly a breakthrough in the evolution of inflatable kayaks.

“A SEA EAGLE boat is a wonderful piece of practical design and craftsmanship and we are very excited to be able to offer the range in Australia,” says Hidde Van Der Leest of Performance Canoes and Kayaks.

“The quality is exceptional and the concept of an inflatable boat just makes so much sense with its robust and practical high-performance design. A Sea Eagle boat gives everyone from novices to experienced adventurers the chance to enjoy all the benefits of this ingenious concept.”

“I am confident the concept of inflatable boats, kayaks and fishing platforms will quickly make a positive impact on all Australians who enjoy water-based recreational activities,” he says.
